IPI is excited to announce a new initiative called the ipiSOUNDlab project. This initiative is a collaboration between Sound (NGO) and IPI 501(c)(3).
“Sound is a new music incubator based in northeast Scotland encouraging new music creation and discovery by providing composers the opportunity to experiment, develop and create new works; and to have these works performed and heard. Sound encourages audiences of all ages and backgrounds to experience new music and cross-art form experimentation. Sound is strongly influenced by it’s geographic location, covering both urban areas and remote rural communities, and respond to its specificities and gaps in provision. They often work closely with local arts and other community organizations to share ideas and deliver joint activity to the benefit of the local area.” - https://sound-scotland.co.uk
Additionally, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Composer in Residence, Joe Duddell http://www.joeduddell.co.uk. The collaboration between Sound and IPI will entail the implementation of the ipiSOUNDlab during our five-day seminar. Students will have the opportunity to develop compositional ideas and skills for writing for percussion as well as study select works in a dedicated composer’s forum during their residency. We will also discuss and develop improvisational techniques as well as various methods of creating storyboards and logic models aimed at creating new music; "Invention, Construction, Beginning."
